How much did it cost?
Here we’re going to breakdown the costs we incurred along the way. I’ll break it down by stage:
Green Card -
As explained in Our Green Card Experience we used an online service to assist us in the process. The cost for this service was $950. During the process of gathering information for our applications, we also incurred costs related to document translation services of $149.70 and fees to obtain a birth certificate of $59.50. Aside from time, these were our costs during the application preparation process.
Total pre-filing expenses = $1,159.20.
Once the applications were complete, we filed them with USCIS along with the associated processing fees. Our filings fees were $1,760, which was $1,225 for Form I-485 - Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status and $535 for Form I-130 - Petition for Alien Relative. There were no filing fees associated with Form I-131 - Application for Travel Document or Form I-765 - Application for Employment Authorization. The cost to actually mail the application (we used UPS) was $133.95.
Total filing fees = $1,893.95.
Once the application was filed, we began preparing for the interview process. Being that we’d never done anything like this before, we decide to consult with and ultimately use an immigration attorney to complete the process. The cost for the initial consultation was $150 and the cost to engage the attorney for a pre-interview consultation and attendance during our interview was $1,000.
Total attorney fees = $1,150.00.
Green Card Total = $4,203.15.
Removal of Conditions -
We used an online service to assist us in this process as well. The cost for this service was $549. The filing fee was $680, which was for Form I-751 - Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence. The cost to actually mail the application (we used USPS) was $28.75.
Removal of Conditions Total = $1,257.75
Naturalization -
The only cost associated with this process was the filing fee, which was $710 for Form N-400 - Application for Naturalization.
Naturalization Total = $710.00.
GRAND TOTAL = $6,170.90.
This is the total we tracked along the way. There were certainly other costs not included above, but we didn’t track them or I cannot find them. One that immediately comes to mind is doctor’s fee to complete the medical exam.
These were our costs and fees; they are much different now. We encourage anyone reading to visit the USCIS website for the most up-to-date information.
Feel free to contact us if you have any questions. Thanks!
